Beauty and Pain
The swirling skies of Van Gogh’s Starry Night and the haunting melody of Vincent speak of beauty and pain too vast for words. This quiet power finds an echo in Basuki Abdullah’s Gadis Sunda, where her calm presence tells a story of its own. Her gaze, distant yet profound, holds unspoken depth, much like the silent stars in Van Gogh’s night sky, conveying what words often fail to express.
*Ten years ago, at a hotel in Bali, I came across the painting Gadis Sunda and captured it in a photo. Its beauty left a lasting impression on my heart.
