PIANO

If I had known that playing piano is relieving, I would have taken piano course since long time ago.

It was September 2013. I was in Gramedia store in Margonda, walking to the elevator which will bring me to the second floor, when suddenly my eyes stucked on the piano in the corner of a music store. I remembered that piano. It was the same piano that captivated me two years before. A Yamaha Arius electric piano which cost 5,7 million rupiahs after discounts.

How could I remember the specific price? It’s a piece of cake! I fell in love with that piano so I tried to remember anything about it.

After a slight nostalgic moment that freeze me for a while on the way to the elevator, I decided to come into the music store. That Yamaha Arius piano stood elegantly in the corner, waiting for someone.

I almost forgot to breathe when I read the price tag on it says 5,7 million rupiahs after discounts! It had been two years since the first time I saw the piano, and the price remained the same. I tried so hard to get a hold of myself. I just touched the piano and whispered, “One day, you’ll be mine..” Back home, I couldn’t get the piano out of my head. I have to buy it!

I came back to Gramedia on the next day, but the piano had gone. Someone else buy it earlier than me! What kind of game was that? Did God ask me to put extra effort to get the piano because I had been abandoning it for two years? Fine! I would do my best then. Fortunately I got the same type of the piano in the different store with the same price. It was the last one! I still remember what the seller said. “This piano is red-hot and many people want to buy it because it’s cheap yet it has good quality.” Thank God! I was so lucky!

After buying the piano, it didn’t take a long time to find a piano teacher. In October 2013, I began attending the piano course. It was amazing. As I said before, if I had known that playing piano is relieving, I would have taken piano course since long time ago. I was so happy as I could sing the song that I love or tried to play instrumental song. If I practice regularly, maybe one day I can play River Flows in You beautifully. River Flows in You is a song composed by Korean famous pianist named Yiruma. Besides, by learning to play piano, maybe I can write songs that turn into an album. Who knows?

No, it’s not about the money. It’s all about enjoying life to the fullest. One side of my life consists of obligations to fulfill, including working 9 to 5 to pay the bills, while another side of my life defines myself as a human being who’s craving for love and personal achievements. Playing music is a good way to remind myself that life is not only about working hard everyday, but also about being grateful and happy for who I am.
